On 3 December 2020, the Austrian Society for Legal Linguistics (ÖGRL) is organizing an online panel discussion on the relationship between language, law and the "new normality" in times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Which forms of official action can be subsumed under terms such as "adequate" or "special protective measures" (§ 2a Abs 1 COVID-19-Maßnahmengesetz)? Is there a differentiated principle of legality in the crisis? How much room for interpretation can the constitutional state tolerate, and why does the Constitutional Court (VfGH) repeal (un)certain laws? How can methods of legal linguistics contribute to solving interpretation problems in state emergency (and beyond)?
Panelists are:
Moderation: Mag. Vanessa Krebs (ÖGRL)
