On Tuesday, April 24, 2018, Handelsverband together with Stadler Völkel Attorneys at Law will hold the seminar "DSGVO for Retailers", which will provide information on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DSG 2018) with regard to retailers. This takes place from 14.00 to 16.30 in the building of the Austrian Retail Association (Alser Straße 45,1080 Vienna).

Both the GDPR and the national provisions of the new Data Protection Act 2018 for Austria will take effect from 25 May. These are intended to ensure better control of personal data, but on the other hand mean considerable effort for all companies with branches in the EU/EEA and companies that process data from EU citizens.

The processing of personal data includes, for example, the collection, storage, use, processing and transmission of data that enables the identification of persons. Since this objective area of application is very broadly diversified, the legal changes affect almost every economic person.

Many dealers justifiably think immediately of customers' consents, as they have special requirements according to the DSGVO. However, these are only one of many relevant points that need to be implemented. Questions concerning the obligation to establish a processing directory, data protection officers and contract processors also cause uncertainty.

Dr. Arthur Stadler and Sarah Pichler will discuss these areas and will also explain data protection rights such as the rights to be deleted and the right to be forgotten as well as security concepts for personal data.

Since these legal changes are more complex than they might appear at first glance and due to the high fines and penalties, such practice workshop seems essential and highly recommended for retailers.
